The hip hop world is still reeling from the unexpected passing of Prodigy. The 42-year-old rapper died Tuesday from complications related to sickle cell anemia, according to various sources.

Prodigy himself is remembered as one of the founding members of Mobb Deep, along with Havoc, a groundbreaking hip hop duo from New York that gave fans eight albums between 1993 and 2014 including 1995's hit The Infamous. Known for their gritty, thought-provoking rhymes, Mobb Deep also made a name for themselves with a no-fear attitude towards creating diss tracks and responding to them, including the track with Capone-N-Noreaga and Tragedy Khadafi "L.A. L.A." which was in response the Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound's "New York, New York," as well as several notable back-and-forths with Tupac and his group, Outlawz.

Meanwhile, today, many in the hip hop community and beyond have taken to social media to remember the icon, including Nas, Snoop, Nicki, and more.

Rest well my friend ------
